After completing her training as a construction draughtswoman, Andrea Thelen then studied Architecture at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule Düsseldorf). She obtained her qualification as Diplom-Ingenieur (equivalent to master’s degree) in 1996 for her thesis under Professor Dr. Wolfgang Meisenheimer.
She then worked with Professor Jürgen Pahl and Dr. Beate Niemann in the Büro für Urbanistik (Office for Urbanism) in Düsseldorf.
From 1998 until 2006, she was employed by Schwitzke & Partner architecture and design firm in Düsseldorf. She acquired comprehensive skills in the Retail sector and, as project manager, was responsible for top-quality brands like Burberry and Tommy Hilfiger.
Under her management, stores and flagship stores opened in Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Geneva, Graz and Paris. Her main duties primarily involved the elaboration of concepts using elements of light, colour and different materials.
Andrea and Hans-Jörg Thelen have run their Düsseldorf firm of architects together since 2006.
Andrea Thelen is a member of the association Frauen in der Immobilienwirtschaft e.V. (Women in Real Estate), Düsseldorf Business Club and AIV association of architects and engineers in Düsseldorf. Moreover, she was a voluntary member of the presbytery of Düsseldorf Church of the Holy Cross (Kreuzkirche) for six years.
Another branch of the firm of architects was opened in Berlin at the end of 2016.
